First Data Entry In The African Specific DNA Database: A Guideline Review.

Abstract :
For entry in the African Specific DNA Database, a data is selected based on a set of criteria. Once selected the data is entered in the database according to strict entry guidelines. Here, we describe the guidelines for data entry in the African Specific DNA Database.

Description :
The African Specific DNA Database (ASDD) is a subcomponent of the SMART African Biotechnology Information Centre (SABIC). Therefore, guidelines applicable to SABIC SHALL apply to ASDD. Like any other subcomponent of SABIC, additional ASSD specific guideline data may apply. See ASDD page for details.
To be eligible for entry in the SABIC database,, a data MUST pass all steps of the following test:
- The data MUST have been published in a peer review medium with a verifiable ISSN number.
- An abstract containing the data MUST be available in Pubmed, with a verifiable Pubmed ID number. OR in a database described in a peer review medium with a verifiable ISSN number.
- The author publishing the data MUST have at least two other peer review publications in Pubmed OR in another peer review medium with a verifiable ISSN number.
- The peer review journal with a verifiable ISSN number publishing the data MUST have published at least two other peer review scientific articles.
- A data that failed two of the four steps of the test SHALL be REJECTED.
- A data that passed all steps of the test but one SHALL be transferred to the SABIC Board of Management for further processing.
- The last paragraph of the entry SHALL specify the source of the data in blue indicating the first author (et al;) of the journal, and the serial number of the journal as follow:
Example: Source: Yari et al; Bioinformation 2(6): 257-259 (2008): ISSN 0973-2063
- The SABIC member entering the data SHALL indicate the date of the entry in the format : 12/34/5678 where
The two digits in 12 indicates the month
The two digits in 34 indicate the day
The four digits in 5678 indicate the year
- The SABIC member entering the data SHALL sign the entry form and PRINT FISRT NAME followed by LAST NAME

- The entry form SHALL be signed by the entry team coordinator OR a member of the SABIC Board of Management.
