GENETICS

We developed an HIV genetics and Bioinformatics protocol aiming to develop an HIV Drug Resistance Database for a public institution in Cotonou, Benin: The Benin HIV Drug Resistance Database. The protocol applied HIV GENETICS principle to identify mutations in the HIV genome that are associated with resistance to anti HIV drugs (ARVs).

BIOINFORMATCS.  

The Bioinformatics section of the protocol designed an internet accessible database to systematically organize the identified mutations in relation with the ARVs for ease access to medical doctors that operate in the areas of treatment of HIV patients.

MEDICINE

We establish a partnership with professors in HIV related medicine to supervise the “medicine” section of the work, and set applications guidelines for medical doctors operating on the grounds. 

In collaboration with professors in medicine, we also develop teaching materials on the basics of Genetics for medicine for students in faculties of medicine, as part their training programs to become medical doctors. The Biotech tropicana,IncHEALTH unit of the Biotech tropicana Systems does not definitively practice medicine.

BIOTECH:

Our genetics teaching materials to students in medicine include novel extensions of Genetics into the field of modern Biotech. Our Biotech program developed a platform for performing the three laboratory tests recommended by expert panels in monitoring HIV patients: SMARThivPACK. Our SMARThivPACK bring CD4 counting, Viral Load measurement, and Drug resistance testing into a single spot, a “COMBO KIT”: a landmark innovation of the Biotech tropicana Systems that resolved inequity in standards in HIV treatment between rich patients in developed countries and poor patients in developing countries. SMARThivPACK puts an end on debates on issues of ethics and standards, because of differences in  HIV patients monitoring protocols in rich countries and poor countries. Our SMARThivPACK applied modern biotech principles to develop an HIV patient monitoring protocol that operates in the same standard in both rich and poor countries.
