Abstract:

The Biotech tropicana Systems are a biotech company dedicated to promoting, applying and developing biotechnologies adapted to the needs of the developing world. We operate a unit that focuses on innovations of biotechnologies aligned with development objectives of the African Union: Biotech tropicana, IncAU. Here, we discuss our guiding principles of our biotech business operations in Africa.

Keywords: Africa; Biotechnology; Innovation; Business; Development; Promotion; Guidelines; Guiding Principles.

Background:

For guidance of our biotech business in Africa, we relied on guidelines set forth by the High-Level African Panel on Modern Biotechnology. We analyze the guidelines to design our proprietary internal development principles that will promote the success of our biotechnology activities in Africa. At implementation we strictly apply our policies to protect our interests and avoid getting in conflict with the guidelines set forth by the authorities in the fields, particularly in activities that are executed under partnerships and collaborations. While the Biotech tropicana Systems shall not be involved in internal affairs of its partners, our partnership policies are designed to protect our interests.

Here, we discuss selected guiding principles as set by the High-Level African Panel on Modern Biotechnology in applying biotechnologies as a development tool in Africa.

Organization:

This paper is designed to comport

  1. selected abstracts from ‘Freedom to Innovate: Biotechnology in Africa’s Development’,  a Report of the High-Level African Panel on Modern Biotechnology , followed by
  2. comments on proprietary  internal operational principles of the  Biotech tropicana Systems.

Discussion:

While the Biotech tropicana Systems welcome comments and opinions by non panel members, at operational levels we strictly enforce our internal guidelines and guidelines set forth by the authorities in the fields. Our experiences  demonstrate that failure to comply with guidelines is one the main factors that determine the failures of projects to achieve results in Africa.

In local projects, large amount of money is invested in big projects executed by large numbers of projects specialists to produce negative development gains.

Applying our internal guidelines of low capital input, multiple small projects executed by a low number of project specialists when combined with strict respect of the guidelines set by the authorities of the field produce net positive development gains.

The main problem we encounter in Africa is that when the locals violate guidelines in their big money projects, produce inevitable negative gains and kill their projects, they will start developing baseless arguments in their desperate attempts to ‘steal’ our positive development gains.

Our policy in the Biotech tropicana Systems is not waste our time and resources on baseless arguments. What they will encounter is our well organized security system to bust them out.
